Syllabus

Introduction to Child Care: Introduction, objectives of early childhood care and education, principles of early learning and development, pedagogical approaches to principles of programme planning.

Early Childhood Care and Education: Meaning of child development, significance of early childhood education, programme planning in ecce, evaluation of the child in ecce, parents as teacher, the role of the teacher in ECCE.

Child Development: Principles of development, physical and motor development during early childhood, cognitive and language development, emotional and social development and discipline, behavioural issues, children with special needs.

Home Based Care for Child: Introduction and rationale of home based care for young child programme, planning for home visits, complementary feeding, iron and folic acid supplementation, full immunization for children, growth monitoring, early childhood development, water, sanitation and hygiene.

Health, Nutrition and Safety: Daily health checks, responding to an illness, dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke, bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, influenza (flu).

Special Needs and Inclusive Child Care: Introduction, impairment and disability, specific learning disability, definition of hearing impairment, the nature of cognitive, intellectual disabilities.
